In today’s industry, tattoo pigments are usually made of metal salts. But the tattoo industry has made the ingredients to the tattoo inks, dyes and pigments proprietary for the most part, so they don’t have to tell you what’s in it. It’s sort of a trade secret.

The tattoo inks at most parlors are a combination of pigment that is suspended in a carrier solution. The tattoo pigment is what gives the tattoo ink its color. Pigment for tattoo ink can be found at any major tattoo pigment supplier.
